Q: How can I keep my Hummingbird Feeder from leaking and dripping?

A: Gravity feeders will drip and leak if a seal or vacuum has not been formed in the feeder. To form a seal or vacuum in the feeder, make sure the feeder is completely full – this is necessary to form a vacuum. The stopper and rim of the feeder must be as dry as possible. Insert the feeding tube and position it about 1/4 inch into the stopper. Since these are gravity feeders, it is also helpful to keep the feeder out of direct sun or wind. Some dripping will occur with gravity feeders, but by following these steps, the amount should be minimal.

Q: Why won’t finches come to our feeder?

A: When a new feeder is introduced it may take a few weeks for the birds to feel comfortable with the new feeder. Be patient. If after a few weeks, you still do not have birds at your feeder, try placing in a different location in your yard.

Q: Should I take my feeder down during the colder months?

A: No! It isn’t necessary to put your feeders away during the winter months. Birds will appreciate filled feeders during colder weather. It’s not necessary to put Hummingbird feeders away, either. During their migration south, some birds migrate alone and need the extra nourishment. Birds also need a source of water during winter months.

Q: Do you have glass replacements for your products?

A: We do not supply glass replacements. In most cases, the cost is too prohibitive as most of the cost of the product is the glass.

Q: Are your outdoor wrought iron products rust resistant?

A: Our wrought iron products are powder-coat painted to help resist rust, however, any items exposed to outdoor elements for a long period of time will show wear over time.

Q: Can your hose hangers be mounted on brick or other exteriors besides wood?

A: Yes, the lag bolts included can be used to mount on brick surfaces with expansion anchors.

Q: Can I replace the plastic feeding ports used in your bird feeders?

A: Yes. Contact our Customer Service Department and they will send you replacement ports for a small replacement fee.

Q: Can I get replacement globes for the Sea Lantern and Hook purchased at Ace Hardware?

A: While the Sea Lantern and Hook were discontinued 2001, some Ace Hardware Warehouses may still have these items in their facilities. The Hayes Company does not have replacement parts for this item.

Q: Where can I get replacement parts for the windmill I recently purchased?

A: Contact our Customer Service Department.

Q: There are seven extra pieces of crossbars included with the Classic Arbor purchased. What are these for?

A: These are the support crossbars for the arch of the arbor.

Q: What table of measurement is used for the rain gauges?

A: The measurement markings are standard, not metric, and the markings are correct. The 2” marking looks as if it should be about 5” but is correctly placed to indicate when 2” of rain has fallen.

Q: How do I get my neighborhood nursery to carry Hayes Products?

A: It's simple! Just submit the name and address of your neighborhood nursery to our customer service staff and we'll be glad to make an initial contact with the retail shop you suggest.

There are some minimum order requirements to consider but if we can be a supplier at a nursery conveniently located to serve you, we are happy to do so.

How to Order

Q: Can I purchase your products directly from you?

A: Only if you are a retailer. The Hayes Company does not sell directly to consumers. However, you can find our products at mass merchants, home improvement centers, regional and local nurseries, gift shops, hardware stores, grocery and drug stores throughout the USA and internationally.

Q: How can I get one of your catalogs?

A: You can only get our catalog if you are a retailer. To receive a catalog:

Send us your request for a catalog on your company letterhead, along with your Tax ID #.

Q:Do you have minimum ordering requirements?

A: Yes, minimum initial order requirements are as follows:

$750.00 – Prepaid by check or credit card

$1,000.00 – Open Terms Credit – for initial opening orders. To establish this account, we require 3 current trade references along with a current bank reference.
